The Unicorn and the Paper Moon

Elin and a shy silver unicorn mend a torn paper moon and a cracked horn with golden seams, discovering that repair need not hide what happened.

Calm Low intensity Reassuring ending

A Tear in the Moon

For the forest lantern walk, Elin made a moon from white paper and willow twigs. At the first turn, a branch caught it. Rip! The moon hung in two pieces.

Behind a fern stood a silver unicorn. “I know about broken beautiful things,” she said. One small crack crossed her horn.

“Can magic fix them?” Elin asked.

“Sometimes,” said the unicorn. “But glue is usually quicker.”

The Mending Table

They carried the moon to Elin's shed. The unicorn held the pieces steady while Elin brushed paste across strips of gold tissue. They laid each strip over the tear.

The repaired place did not disappear. It became a golden river across the moon.

Elin wrapped a gold thread around the crack in the unicorn's horn. It did not make the horn new. It made the old hurt part shine.

Brighter for the Mending

At the walk, everyone asked how Elin had made the golden river. She told the truth: it had started with a rip.

The unicorn stayed among the trees where only Elin could see her. When the lanterns passed, the repaired horn caught their light.

“It is not the moon you planned,” the unicorn said.

Elin smiled at the glowing seam. “No. It is the moon we mended.”

They walked together until the path reached home, carrying a light that had become beautiful twice.
