The Prince's Dilemma

Young Prince Ferdinand lived in a big castle. He always shared his colourful toys with his friends, so everyone knew he was kind.

But when the Royal Chef brought dinner, Prince Ferdinand pulled a face. "No, I do not like the green peas," he would say. "And that brown meat looks squishy!"

The Frustrated Chefs

Chef Antoine sighed, wiping his hands on his apron. "Another plate returned," he grumbled. "The Prince complains about everything!"

They cooked every type of dish, but nothing pleased him. The happy kitchen was quiet, and only sad sighs were heard.

The Queen's Concern

The Queen looked at her own dinner plate. "My dear Prince Ferdinand is so particular about food," she sighed. She worried he might not grow big and strong if he only ate sweet treats.

"I must find someone to help," she whispered. "I will ask the clever Fairy Godmother what to do."

The Fairy Godmother's Visit

The Fairy Godmother arrived at the castle on a bright morning. A soft, glittery sparkle drifted behind her. The castle cooks giggled with joy.

The Queen waited in her royal garden. Pink roses bloomed and butterflies fluttered there. They sat on a stone bench. “My dear Queen,” the Fairy Godmother said, “what troubles you so?” “Oh, Fairy Godmother,” the Queen said, wringing her hands. “Prince Ferdinand will not eat his dinner. He is so very particular!”

The Fairy Godmother's Plan

The Fairy Godmother gave a happy little laugh. "I have a clever plan for Prince Ferdinand!" she said. "He must go on a journey, not for shiny jewels, but to find many tasty foods. He will discover yummy things to eat!"

The Queen nodded slowly, thinking. The Fairy Godmother explained, "This adventure will teach him to like all kinds of meals, and he will see exciting new parts of the world."

The Prince's Adventure

Prince Ferdinand held his little bag. He felt a tiny flutter in his tummy. "What will I find?" he wondered, starting his long journey. A big boat carried him over the wide blue sea. He watched fish jump. Then he walked through a deep green forest. He heard sweet birds singing.

He visited busy markets and quiet villages. In one market, he saw colourful foods everywhere. "What is this purple fruit?" Ferdinand asked a kind lady. "It's a plum! Try it," she smiled. He tasted sharp lemons and sugary cakes. Crunchy biscuits and smooth puddings made him smile. "Oh, this is delicious!" he said. Every new bite showed him so many yummy things.

The Prince's Transformation

Prince Ferdinand finally came home, stepping through the big castle gates. A guard quickly saluted him. "Welcome home, Your Highness!" the guard boomed. Prince Ferdinand smiled. "It's good to be back," he said. He smelled warm bread and a sweet, spicy new smell. He saw Cook Pip stirring a big pot in the kitchen.

"What is that wonderful smell, Cook Pip?" Prince Ferdinand asked. Cook Pip gave a big chuckle. "It's a new curry, Prince Ferdinand, from a land with sunny colours!" Prince Ferdinand's tummy rumbled. "I can't wait to taste it! My travels showed me so many yummy foods."

The Joyful Kitchen

The royal kitchen felt busy and happy now. Pots clanged gently, and a sweet cinnamon smell floated around. Chef Antoine hummed a little tune. Before, the chefs felt a bit shy when Prince Ferdinand tasted their food. Now, Cook Pip held up a big bowl of green bean stew. "Taste this, Your Highness!" she said, her face bright. Prince Ferdinand took a big spoonful. "Mmm, delicious! This reminds me of the crunchy beans I ate in the Sunny Mountains." He gave Cook Pip a happy smile.

Prince Ferdinand told stories about his exciting travels. He spoke of spicy peppers from warm lands and thick bread from snowy places. "We could try making bread with seeds!" cried Chef Antoine. Giggles bounced off the walls. Cook Pip then shared her secret recipe for a special ginger cake. The prince and the chefs talked like good friends, sharing secrets and lots of laughter.

The Lesson Learned

After Prince Ferdinand left, people in the kingdom looked for new foods. A little girl named Lily once saw her mum cooking a strange, colourful stew. "What is that yummy smell?" Lily asked, her nose wiggling. "It is something new," her mum said. "Like Prince Ferdinand taught us!" Lily took a tiny taste. "Oh, it is so good!" she cheered.

The tale of the Picky Prince became a favourite bedtime story. "Always be brave," parents would say, "and try new things! You might find wonderful tastes."
