The Farmer and the Stork

Introducing the Characters

Farmer Tomas lived in his village by a big, calm lake. He worked hard in the green valley every day, growing tasty food. His apple trees always held the reddest fruit.

"Please take some for your dinner," Tomas would say kindly. Everyone knew he shared his good harvest.

The Bountiful Harvest

One sunny autumn morning, Farmer Tomas walked into his fields. The tall corn stood ripe, and golden wheat swayed. Fat, purple grapes hung heavy on their vines.

Tomas picked a sweet grape. "This will feed us all," he said with a big smile. "Plenty for the whole village this long winter!"

The Arrival of the Stork

The orange sun began to go down. Tomas heard a funny *clack-clack* sound from the lake. He walked to his window and looked outside.

"What is that sound?" he wondered aloud. A big white stork stood by the water. Its long, curved beak went into the lake.

The Stork's Offer

The big white stork walked closer to Tomas. *Clack-clack*, went his long beak as he stepped. "Hello, my friend!" the stork called out. "I have a clever idea. Can I help with your crops? My strong beak could pick all the fruit and corn for you!"

Tomas looked up at the stork. His eyes opened wide, and a happy smile spread across his face. "Oh, that is so kind of you," Tomas said. "With your help, we will finish the harvest very quickly indeed!"

Tomas's Gratitude

As the sun went low, Tomas and the big stork began their work together. *Clack-clack*, went the stork's long beak. He picked bright red apples, then soft peaches, and round yellow pears. Tomas watched him work, his eyes wide with wonder.

Tomas pushed the last heavy box onto the cart. "Oh, thank you so much, my friend!" he told the stork. "I could never do this fast all by myself." The big moon shone down brightly. Tomas gave a tired yawn, but a happy one. The stork made a soft *clack-clack* sound. Their big job was finally done.

The Harvest Festival

Tomas looked at his storeroom. It was full of apples, peaches, and pears, right up to the roof! "Oh, my!" he said, tapping his chin. "I know! Let's have a party, a big feast!" He turned to his friend, the stork. "We can celebrate the harvest, and say a special thank you for all your amazing help." The stork gave a happy "Clack-clack." So, Tomas sent out little notes to everyone. Soon the village hummed with happy talk.

On the day of the feast, happy sounds floated through the air. People laughed loudly. Someone played a cheerful tune on their pipe, and everyone danced with their friends. They ate yummy fruit tarts and sweet berry pies. The whole village sang songs together. They were glad for the harvest and for Tomas's new friend, the big stork.

As the sun began to peek up, painting the sky with soft colours, the stork stretched his big wings. It was time for him to go. Tomas felt a little tear in his eye. Tomas waved goodbye with a big hand. "Oh, thank you again, my friend," Tomas said in a quiet voice. "Have a good trip!" The stork bent his long neck and tapped Tomas's arm gently. "Clack-clack," he sounded. "I will come back next year to help you again."

So, Tomas the farmer and the big stork became the very best of friends. They helped each other so much. This story tells us that everyone can make a difference. Even if you are big or small, being kind and working together makes good friends. Try to be like Tomas and the stork. Always help your friends when you can. Goodnight, dear children, and sleep well.
