Chicken Licken

The Peaceful Village

Chicken Licken lived in a small village. It was tucked deep inside a big forest. His very best friends were Ducky Lucky, Doggie Dash, and Froggy Leap. They always spent their time together. "You're my favourite pal!" Ducky Lucky quacked, nudging Chicken Licken. Doggie Dash wagged his tail, happy to agree.

Each morning, chirping birds woke them up. Leaves rustled softly in the trees. They splashed and shouted in the cool pond. "Watch me jump!" croaked Froggy Leap, making a huge splash. Later, they munched sweet berries. They played hide-and-seek among the tall, green trees. When the sun went down, the village grew quiet. Bright stars shone above.

The Rumour Mill

The village was a happy place, but Crow loved to cause bother. He often told silly stories. One sunny morning, Chicken Licken scratched the dirt, looking for tasty worms. Suddenly, a loud "CAW! CAW!" made him jump. Crow landed nearby with a thump.

"Chicken Licken, have you heard the news?" Crow cawed, puffing out his chest. "The sky is falling down!" He watched very closely. Crow tried hard not to smile. Chicken Licken stopped pecking, and his red comb wobbled with worry.

Chicken Licken's Panic

Chicken Licken’s bright red comb wobbled, and his legs began to tremble. "The sky is falling?" he squawked loudly, seeing the big blue sky tumbling right onto their heads. He flapped his wings very fast, kicking up a dusty cloud. Then he ran to find Ducky Lucky, Doggie Dash, and Froggy Leap. "Oh dear, we are in such trouble!" he clucked, rushing up to them. His friends saw how scared he looked. They wanted to help him feel better.

Ducky Lucky said gently, "Now, now, Chicken Licken. Let's not worry too much, too soon." Froggy Leap made a soft croak. "Maybe it's just a mistake," he suggested slowly. Doggie Dash, who usually loved to chase his tail, sat down. He leaned close to Chicken Licken and wagged his tail very softly. But Chicken Licken's heart still went thump-thump-thump inside his chest. He felt sure something bad was going to happen.

Setting Off on an Adventure

The sun felt warm on their feathers and fur one morning. Chicken Licken, Ducky Lucky, Doggie Dash, and Froggy Leap met right in the middle of their village. Chicken Licken still felt a little bit scared, but he also felt very brave. He puffed out his chest, and his wings fluttered slightly. "We must find out what happened!" he clucked with a determined voice.

Ducky Lucky bobbed her head, and Doggie Dash gave a soft bark. Froggy Leap croaked loudly, making sure all the friends agreed with him. They put yummy berry snacks into a small pouch. Froggy Leap held up a big green leaf with a drawing on it. "This is our map!" he said proudly. They waved goodbye to their homes, then walked past the last big tree, ready for their journey.

Encounters Along the Way

The friends walked along the path, and soon they saw a big, grey owl sitting high in a tree. Its soft feathers looked warm. "Hoo-hoo!" hooted the owl softly. "To be truly clever," the owl said slowly, "you must listen much more than you talk." Chicken Licken nodded his head. He thought that listening might have stopped him from feeling so scared before.

The Truth Revealed

The friends walked to the very edge of the big forest. The light was getting dimmer now, and the sky looked different. Chicken Licken pointed with a shaky wing. "Oh, look!" he whispered. "Something big is happening!" But it was not the sky falling down at all. The giant orange sun was slowly sinking low in the sky, painting the clouds with beautiful red and orange colours. Then, some brown and yellow leaves floated down from the tall trees, twirling as they fell.

Chicken Licken blinked his eyes, letting out a big breath. "Oh!" he said softly. "It was only the sun going down. And those were just leaves!" Doggie Dash wagged his tail slowly, his eyes wide. Froggy Leap gave a quiet croak, looking all around him. Chicken Licken gave a little smile. "The world is bigger than our fears," he said. They all watched the amazing colours as the last bit of sun disappeared.

The Return Journey

"Time to go home now," said Chicken Licken, stretching a weary wing. "My feet are quite tired." Ducky Lucky waddled beside him. "My wings are tired too, but it was a great adventure!" Doggie Dash wagged his tail quickly. "It was so much fun!" he barked with a happy grin. Froggy Leap croaked, "Yes, very fun indeed; we saw many interesting things." They walked back along the familiar path, and each step felt much lighter than before. "Remember the giant spider with the sparkly web?" giggled Ducky Lucky. "And the singing stones!" Doggie Dash yipped happily, kicking a small pebble. The wind rustled through the green leaves above them, sounding like the trees were softly clapping.

A Newfound Confidence

After their big adventure, Chicken Licken felt very different. He no longer jumped when a dry leaf crunched near his feet. Instead, he stood tall, his feathers looking smooth and bright. One sunny morning, a tiny chick ran up, flapping its wings wildly. “Oh, Chicken Licken, the sky is falling!” cried the chick. Chicken Licken simply looked up. “No, little one,” he said calmly, “that’s just a big, fluffy cloud.” He always thought carefully before he spoke.

The Power of Friendship

The sky above the village turned a soft orange colour as evening arrived. Chicken Licken saw his friends coming towards their special meeting place. "Hello, everyone!" barked Doggie Dash, wagging his tail so hard his whole body wiggled. Ducky Lucky giggled, "Such a super day for a party!" Froggy Leap hopped quietly beside them. They were not setting off on another big adventure tonight. This time, they would celebrate their journey that was now finished. They shared sweet berries and crunchy seeds under the bright, winking stars.
