The Moon-Cake

The Shining Moon

Once upon a time, a big, round moon shone high in the dark sky. It looked like a giant, silver plate. Its soft, gentle light touched every tree and every home below.

When the moon shone brightest, little Pip Squeak the mouse would squeak, "Time to sing!" Squeaky the squirrel would dance. Children watched from their beds. "Goodnight, Moon," whispered Lily, feeling cosy and safe.

The Moon's Wish

The big, round moon held a secret close. It gazed at the deepest, greyest parts of the land, where sunlight never reached.

"Oh, I wish my light could touch every creature there," the moon sighed softly. "I want them all to feel happy too!"

The Moon's Plan

The big moon thought hard, its silver light wobbling just a little. "I have an idea!" it whispered to the quiet night. "I will bake a wonderful cake!"

This special cake would be made from soft moonbeams and sweet, twinkly starlight. It would make any dark place bright and everyone who shared it feel happy inside.

The Baker Moon

In the deep, dark night, the Moon smiled. "Time to bake!" it whispered, pulling back its light like sleeves. It gathered soft moonbeams and twinkly starlight, then stirred them with a big, shiny spoon. "This needs to be just right," the Moon hummed, working very carefully. Night after night, it mixed and mixed, and the stars watched, winking softly.

At last, when the sky turned pink for morning, the cake was done! It had a shiny silver colour and bright gold sparkles. A sweet smell drifted down to the sleeping flowers. "Oh my!" chirped a tiny daisy, waking up. "What a lovely smell!"

The Delivery Moon

The Moon now needed someone to carry its special cake to its destination. It watched its many moon children, looking for a special helper. A young moon, with a smooth, bright face, bounced gently. Its light felt very soft and kind. "I can help, Mum Moon!" it whispered, shining a little brighter.

The Moon smiled widely. "You are just right for this big job," it said. It carefully placed the shiny silver cake box into the young moon's hands. The box sparkled brightly, ready for their quest.

The Adventures of the Delivery Moon

The brave young moon saw many things on its long trip. Wind whistled loudly as it flew through big storms. "Brrr!" chattered the moon, feeling chilly. It spotted a tiny bear cub, very lost in the deep, dark trees. "Where is your mummy?" the young moon asked softly. "Lost!" squeaked the cub. The moon carefully showed the little cub the path home to its family.

It felt warm inside after helping. Now, its special goal was very close. A quiet, dark corner of the world waited for its bright, happy light.

The Dark Forest

The delivery moon floated into the deep forest, where the tall trees made a thick roof of leaves. "Brrr, it's very dark in here!" the moon whispered. No sunshine could touch the ground at all, just a cool, quiet gloom.

It carefully opened the shiny silver box, and a soft, bright light spilled out. This was the special moon-cake, glowing gently in the gloom. Tiny eyes that had known only shadows blinked and looked. "What is that lovely light?" squeaked a little voice from the trees.

The Sharing of the Moon-Cake

The little forest creatures slowly peeked out. "Please come closer," the moon whispered to them. A tiny brown mouse bravely took a step, then a fluffy badger shuffled up. Soon, big and small animals formed a happy circle around the visitors.

The moon shared a soft piece of cake with each one. "This tastes sweet!" chirped a small bird. A lovely warm feeling went right down to their toes. Their eyes shone bright, and the dark forest seemed to glow. Little giggles started, then happy smiles spread on every face.

The Happiness of the Forest

The animals danced under the bright moon-glow. A little brown mouse twirled, and a fluffy badger hopped with glee. "This is so much fun!" squeaked a squirrel, doing a happy little jig. No one hid behind the trees now; the forest felt warm and safe.

The Moon watched them all with a gentle smile. "Thank you for the lovely cake," whispered a small bird. All the friends laughed and played together. The forest rang with joyful sounds.
